Sep 27, 2009 · I just completed the 0411 PCM swap on my 97 model Vortec 7.4. This engine is in an 89 suburban using a standalone wiring harness, from Painless. I have loaded the calibrations for the 2001 Express Van. The OS running is 12212156. I do not have a VSS hooked up since the 89 suburban didn't have one. I am using a 4spd (SM465) transmission.

(no need for the entire under dash wiring harness) There is quite a bit of work to make this as you need to basically cut & splice every wire going to the ECU to do this properly.

This is a full standalone universal ECU. It appears to have a PWM output that could run VVT very crudely in an open loop fashion. In my experience that is pretty unreliable and unpredictable. To operate the VVT properly you need closed loop control and last I talked to Link they were not even considering that functionality.
